Graphic Novel Author
INTERESTING INFORMATION:
I was browsing online the other day and discovered the news about a first time novelist who has recently published a book telling the story of an African tribe who suffer loss of land and identity. His story is based on their real life experiences and research. She even donates a portion of the proceeds from the book to a charity that helps people displaced. His whole story sounded interesting. However, when I looked through your website, I could not find it.
Too bad, I thought.
Although the book appears online at Amazon.com and other bookseller sites, and there are a couple of press releases announcing his book signings, no obvious web presence for this wonderful book and its author. My immediate thought was that he was leaving awareness and sales of books on the table.
Maybe she feel you need a website because it has the charity and assistance to his publisher with advertising, or because there is some interest expressed in the film rights. Still, I think a simple website with her story of how he researched and wrote his book, with pictures of herself in the place, they do wonders for your novel.
In today's hectic world, where attention spans can last a nanosecond, an author can not afford not to have a website. Even if people are not lining up to buy his book today, you can visit their website and browse. If you like the site, there's a good chance they will return in the future, or tell their friends about it. I think This point is especially true for us, for the first time novelists. In my view, a fiction novel is the hardest type of book to promote and sell online or offline. There are literally thousands of fiction novels published each year because of how easy it is to get a POD published book on the market.
The authors have tons of competition to attract attention. While the readership are shrinking, the number of books being published is increasing. New authors have to compete with each other, as well as established authors, film, television, blogs, video games and other entertainment offerings. From a reader's perspective, why should they read your book on someone else?
Their website gives you a fighting chance to catch someone's attention and put you and your brand of storytelling. Also, you have the creative freedom to make your room look you want. It's all about colors, graphics and words on all the words.
HELLO WORLD, I'm here!
CHECK OUT THIS GREAT BOOK!
Here is a sample of my story!
Due to most authors have to do their own promotion, your website is your own personal promotion stand sitting amid a vast sea of similar booths within a virtual flea market. Remember, people online is 24.7 for information on all kinds of things.
While you're sleeping, someone could be visiting your site.
While you're shopping, someone could be visiting your site.
While you're busy at work, someone could be visiting your site.
Of course, if you do not have a website promoting his book, then the potential readers just have to wait until his book comes across while reading about your book signing somewhere, or perhaps browse the online booksellers, or perhaps after hearing about his book from a friend of a friend. . . you get the idea.
Why leave to chance?
Websites are easy to implement these days, so there's no excuse not to have at least one page with your book. Believe me, people are looking for, and if they have no web presence, they will move to the next author to do so.
